This is my entry for the "Fairytale gone bad"
It also gives you more infomation about "the history of the poncho, but you have to believe in rumors or fairytales gone bad.
You have probably heared of a fairytale about a beautiful princess, doomed of being locked up in castle. They say this girl had beautiful long golden hair.
But rumors go bad- This is NOT about a young girl locked up in a castle, waiting for her knight in shining armor to come along. No. This also isn't about a fairytale taking place in a magical forest.
the real story takes place in one of Mexico's suburbans and instead of a young princess it was poor Mexican. He had a very long tangled beard, most people stayed away from him due to hygiene issues.
Eventually, his beard could no longer fit through the door, and he was locked up for years.
everyday a beautiful Mexican named Maria would come along with a basket of groceries and give it to him. Since she couldn't enter the house, She thought of a way to deliver his daily meals by tieing it up in his beard. When everything got tied up thight enough, Rapunzo would pull up his beard and so receive Maria's deliveries.
The days went by, and times were hard in Mexico.
Maria worked hard to earn a living, but there just wasn't enough food for both her and Rapunzo.
Maria thought of all sort of ways to make more money, but all failed. Until one day when Maria was washing rapunzo's beard, she had this wonderful idea to spin rapunzo's beard into wool and make it into a clothing piece she called a poncho. She sold thousands of ponchos, and everyone started wearing them in Mexico.
Rapunzo's beard got shorter and shorter, eventually the last hairs dissapeared from his face. and Rapunzo could finally see the world around him, and his eyes met Maria's
-love at first sight.
They married, had kids and yadaya you know the story
This story inspired a writer so much, he started writing a story about princes with beautiful long golden hair, because really...who wants to hear a story about an ugly old guy with a long beard anyway?
